Founder and Pioneer of Wassenburg Medical
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our founder, Gerrit Wassenburg, on October 21, 2025. Gerrit was more than the founder of Wassenburg Medical – he was a visionary, an innovator, and a pioneer in the field of endoscope reprocessing.
In 1984, driven by a strong belief that every patient deserves a safe endoscope, Gerrit established Wassenburg Medical. His revolutionary idea, to individually connect, wash, disinfect, and monitor each endoscope channel, laid the foundation for what would become a standard in automated endoscope reprocessing. Gerrit’s commitment to safety, innovation, and quality led to the development of groundbreaking solutions, including the first WASSENBURG® washer-disinfector in 1987, which served as the foundation for the WASSENBURG® WD440 endoscope washer-disinfector. Under his leadership, Wassenburg Medical grew from a family business into an internationally respected company. In 2002, Gerrit passed the torch to his sons, Arno and Ronald Wassenburg, who continue to lead the company with the same passion and dedication. Though Gerrit is no longer with us, his legacy continues to shape who we are and what we strive for. We are profoundly grateful for the innovations he brought to life and the values he instilled in our culture: integrity, care, and a relentless pursuit of excellence and quality.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him. We will remember him with deep respect, admiration, and warmth.
